Farmers using Ireland’s 2026 National Farm Safety Measure have a near-term paperwork deadline: Friday 6 November 2026 is the closing date announced by the Department of Agriculture for applications for payment. The measure supports replacement PTO shaft covers; it is not a general tractor-purchase grant.
The Department’s notice says assistance covers 60% of eligible costs for up to four covers, with a maximum eligible cost of €100 per cover. Those limits make the maximum contribution €60 per cover, or €240 across four qualifying covers. The €240 figure is our calculation from the Department’s limits, not a flat payment promised to every applicant.

Check the payment application, not just the purchase
Buying a cover and submitting the required payment application are separate actions. With the deadline approaching, an applicant should check the live scheme information in their agricultural services account and confirm that the submission is complete. Do not assume that a saved draft has been sent, or that a receipt alone confirms eligibility.
A useful final check is to put the relevant purchase records beside the application, compare quantities and amounts, then retain the submission acknowledgement. If anything is unclear, contact the scheme administrator before the closing date. This article does not establish eligibility for a particular purchase.
A small contribution should not decide the repair
The financial support is modest compared with the importance of safe machinery. A missing or damaged guard calls for attention on safety grounds, independently of whether a payment can still be claimed. Keep the decision about using the machine separate from the decision about claiming support.
When arranging a replacement, ask a competent supplier or repairer to confirm suitability and installation for the actual shaft and machine combination. This is a reason to inspect the entire arrangement, rather than order a part solely because it looks similar in a photograph.
For owners preparing machinery for sale, photograph the current condition accurately and retain repair records. Our tractor PTO guide explains the wider operating context. Sellers can also use those records when describing equipment on WazerMart.
The deadline is specific to the 2026 measure. Readers finding this report after 6 November should check the Department’s latest scheme notice before planning a claim.
